Vodafone and Orange will sell the ‘iPhone’ in Spain

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

The Spanish subsidiary of Vodafone and Orange are preparing to begin selling the iPhone, smartphones like Apple, starting this summer.

The Spanish market movement is similar, therefore, that there has been this winter in the UK market, where O2, Telefonica’s subsidiary lost the exclusivity of Apple’s iconic model hands, Orange first and second Instead, Vodafone.

Telefonica O2 was the first company to sell the iPhone in Europe in the winter of 2007, and did so with an exclusivity agreement with Apple, as happened in the U.S. (where it sold AT & T), France (Orange was chosen ) or Germany, where Apple is bent on T-Mobile, the subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom. The contract period of exclusivity in the UK lasted, therefore, two years.

Although none of the companies with interests in the process wanted to comment, industry sources indicate that both the British subsidiary of French group as referred in his plans for this year to have the sale of equipment from the months next summer.

Negotiations
In fact, the same sources claim that one group has already begun talks with Apple to close distribution agreements. In this sense, indicate that Vodafone and Orange will begin selling the current iPhone 3G (unlock iphone 3g), while Movistar scoop could launch the new iPhone 4G.

The hypothesis of the loss of exclusivity by Movistar’s contract would mean that the company headed by Steve Jobs finally with Telefónica would have a duration of two years-the same period in Britain, since the sale of iPhone in Spain began on 11 July 2008.

Although, initially, in 2007, Apple opted for an exclusive marketing model with a single operator, from its launch in new markets in 2008 and opened to the formula for distribution through various companies. He did, for example, in Italy (where it sold Telecom Italia and Vodafone) and Portugal (where it is marketed by Vodafone and Optimus).
